KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday, ordered the demolition of 14 illegal buildings within the next seven weeks, at Canal East Road in Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s Ward 29 after three engineers submitted a report stating that the building plans of these 14 constructions were not sanctioned.
A KMC buildings department source said, out of the 14 buildings, two were permanent, concrete structures and the rest were huts. While hearing a petition, Justice Amrita Sinha ordered the civic body to conduct a spot inspection. The civic body, earlier, had alleged non-cooperation of cops to pull down illegal buildings in the Narkeldanga police station area. In connection to this allegation, Justice Sinha had ordered the officer-in-charge of the police station to appear in court.
