GURUGRAM: The enforcement wing of town and country planning department razed 14 houses that were being built illegally on plots earmaked for economically weaker section (EWS) in U block of DLF 3 on Friday.
The move came after several complaints registered with the department alleging illegal construction on 60-square yard EWS category plots.
Subsequently, a team was constituted and a survey conducted, which revealed 14 under-construction houses violating the norms.
DTCP officials said that the offenders carried out unauthorised constructions in violation of Haryana Development and Regulation of Urban Areas Act No. 8 of 1975. Major violations include construction of extra floors and extended balconies, 100% coverage of plot areas, clubbing of two or more plots to construct commercial buildings like offices, shops and eateries. During the drive, kiosks and temporary sheds were also demolished.
District town planner (enforcement) Manish Yadav said numerous illegal paying guest accommodations, guesthouses and commercial establishments have come up in the area, increasing burden on the civic infrastructure and amenities like electricity and water.
Yadav said the plot owners should raise construction only after approval of plans from competent authorities and as per the sanctioned plans.
