NOIDA: The Noida Authority has decided to allocate residential plots to over 350 farmers in various sectors under its existing policy to provide 5% residential plots. A maximum of 268 plots will be allocated in Sector 146, 42 plots in Sector 43 and 42 plots will be distributed across other sectors.
The move comes amid ongoing protests by farmers, who are demanding 10% of abadi plots in exchange for the land acquired from them.
Initially, the Authority planned to allocate land parcels to group housing projects in Sector 146. However, due to protesting farmers citing the Authority’s failure to provide residential plots as per the guidelines, this plan was scrapped. The current decision aims to fulfill the long-standing demand of farmers from over 10 villages.
According to the Authority’s guidelines, 5% of the total acquired land is allotted to affected farmers as part of rehabilitation initiatives. Farmers, if unable to receive residential plots, can opt for monetary compensation – which is Rs 22,000 per square metre.
The Authority first attempts to allot plots in villages or sectors located within a 3km radius of the farmer’s village. If land is unavailable, plots are allotted in other sectors.
Additional CEO Satish Pal said the Authority has identified the land for these plots and completed formalities related to the land department. The list of farmers has been prepared and will be published on the website as well as in newspapers, Pal added.
The public can file suggestions and objections in the next 15 days, he said.
The Authority will consider objections received within the prescribed date and, after disposal of the objections, plots will be allotted as per the final list, officials added.
Meanwhile, farmers have been staging protests outside the Authority’s Sector 6 office for the past two months, demanding 10% abadi plots, enhanced land compensation and other benefits.
