JAIPUR: Demanding that their side should also be heard, 900 traders from Walled City protested at JMC-Heritage Wednesday after the High Court ordered 19 buildings to be sealed for not following building bylaws and tampering with heritage.
The traders said the establishments are not encroachments as all norms of the civic body are being followed by the traders. Surendra Baj, senior vice-president of Jaipur Vyapaar Mahasangh, said traders demand from the administration to file a plea in the High Court so that their side is also heard. They said traders and their families and employees have been put in a livelihood crisis.
“All the establishments in these 19 buildings have proper commercial connections for electricity and water. Regular UD tax is collected from us, and all norms are followed by the traders. We demanded that our side should also be presented in court before a final judgment is passed,” said Baj.
On Feb 25, a division bench of High Court ordered immediate sealing of 19 buildings in Walled City for not following building bylaws and tampering with heritage. The order came after it was brought to notice of the court that the committee constituted on the HC’s instructions had considered these 19 buildings as completely illegal.
