The AMC on Friday sealed 1,218 properties of defaulters in the East Zone of the city and recovered Rs 65.62 lakh. Additionally, 239 properties of defaulters in various areas of the South Zone were also sealed. The civic body issued notices to defaulters, warning them that their properties’ sewer and water connections would be cut.
If the defaulters do not pay even after their properties are sealed, the properties will be auctioned to recover the property tax, said an AMC official.
AMC’s revenue from property tax decreases
In a revenue committee meeting held on Friday, information about property tax, professional tax, and other taxes was provided, showing a decrease in revenue for 2024-25 compared to 2023-24.
In 2023-24, the total revenue from property tax and other taxes was Rs 2,152.82 crore, while as of Jan 17 in 2024-25, the revenue is Rs 1,695.54 crore.
Thus, the revenue is 78.76% of the previous year’s revenue.
