AHMEDABAD: AMC‘s east zone property tax department sealed 451 units on Tuesday in a crackdown on property tax defaulters. This action follows a warning issued by the municipal commissioner to clear outstanding dues.

The sealed properties include residential and non-residential units in various wards, including Rakhiyal, Khokhra, Nikol and Odhav.

The department also issued notices to chairmen of societies that have significant tax dues, threatening to disconnect water and sewage connections if payments weren’t made. “Stricter measures, including property seizures, police complaints and legal action, are also being considered against defaulters.

The department aims to recover a total of Rs 62.33 lakh in outstanding property tax, including Rs 32.71 lakh from the ongoing operation,” an AMC release states. It also warns that in future, further actions may include registering properties as govt assets.
