AHMEDABAD: The auction of 22 plots planned for early April has been deferred by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) as the model code of conduct for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election is in force.
Before the code was enacted, the AMC had already announced the public auction of these plots, with a cumulative base price of Rs 2,250 crore.
The auction was to be held over a period of days between April 4 and April 8 but now has been rescheduled for April 15-19. “Since the election code of conduct has been enforced, we will technically postpone the registration and the bidding dates. We do not want to cancel the auction process, as getting approval again will take another couple of months. The auction will be held only after the election, and we will keep pushing back the dates till then,” says a senior AMC official.
The auction covers a mix of commercial (14) and residential (8) plots. The most expensive plot, with a base price of Rs 502 crore, is a large commercial property on SP Ring Road in Chandkheda. Three plots on SP Ring Road, valued at Rs 696.96 crore, have a cumulative area of 85,893 square metres. The standing committee approved the auction of 22 plots on Feb 22 and March 7.
Among the plots, a 4,062 sq m residential plot in TP Scheme 38 in Thaltej stands out with the highest per-square-metre price of Rs 2.75 lakh. This puts its total value at Rs 111.70 crore.
In Jan, the AMC auctioned five out of eight plots, generating Rs 298.65 crore in revenue against an expected value of Rs 835.77 crore. The civic body sold a 6,657-square-metre commercial plot in Makarba for Rs 1.51 lakh per square metre, against the base rate of Rs 1.5 lakh. The civic body received Rs 100.52 crore for that plot.
