Amelia Earhart’s Landing Pad Is for Sale, a New Dining Experience on Billionaire’s Row, and More Real Estate News

Just south of Mulholland Drive and the Dixie Canyon Park nature preserve, this Beverly Hills Post Office pad is splendidly secluded. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom home is laid out to take full advantage of the view from its perch above Beverly Hills proper. Nearly every room opens directly onto the deck, which runs the house’s length and offers views of greater Los Angeles beyond the 90210.

Pocket glass doors connect the combined kitchen and living space, as well as the adjacent office to the deck. Both bedrooms connect to the living space via regular sliders. A tank pool on the deck offers the relief of a plunge and the joy of a city view. Mature trees surround the area, with a couple sprouting in the middle of the deck itself. Ideal for an autophile, a glass-surrounded garage allows you to admire your wheels even while you’re out lounging on the patio. Though the initial structure was built in 1949, the 2,400-square-foot home appears to have been extensively renovated, with recessed lighting and wood paneling that looks to be in tip-top shape.

The listing is held by Sam Plouchart and Tom Wrigglesworth of Sotheby’s International Realty Beverly Hills Brokerage.

A Virginia compound with a spot in aviation history lists for $39.9 million

Before her mysterious disappearance in 1939, legendary pilot Amelia Earhart seemed constantly in flight, traversing wide swathes of North America and competing in air races too. According to Robb Report, during one flight in the ’30s, Earhart landed her Pitcairn PCA-2 autogyro at this newly listed McLean, Virginia estate.

Known as Ballantrae Farm, the property’s nearly 100-year-old primary home was still rather young at the time of Earhart’s visit. The structure in question is a massive stone manor built by developer Frank Lyons in 1925 with local fieldstone. Two guest cottages bring the property to a total of 14,000 square feet of interior space across 12 bedrooms, 11 full bathrooms, and six powder rooms. The traditional interiors have been well-maintained and thoughtfully tweaked, with updated bathrooms and a spacious kitchen unlike anything you’d find in the first half of the 20th century. Outside, a pool, professional clay tennis court, soccer field, and expansive gardens offer a range of options for a young family to enjoy across all 6.28 acres.

Piper Yerks and Pamela Yerks of Washington Fine Properties hold the listing.
