VIJAYAWADA: In a huge relief to builders and commoners, state govt has decided to allow construction of buildings for up to five floors without waiting for the building plan approval from the town planning wing. The applicants could straight away start the work merely by filing application and payment of prescribed fee to the municipal bodies.

Addressing the state-level municipal commissioners conference here on Monday, municipal administration minister Dr P Narayana announced implementation of new building rules with immediate effect. He said that govt found that the delay in granting permissions by the town planning department of respective municipalities is bringing the entire construction activity to halt.

” The applicants can straight away launch the work after filing building plan application and payment of requisite fees to the local bodies,” said Narayana.

However, he mentioned this won’t mean the builders could deviate from the proposed plan.

Narayana said that builders would face hefty penalties if they do not stick to the proposed plan during the construction. He added that town planning wing would act as more of a supervisory authority rather than regulatory authority.

He also mentioned that municipal commissioners were empowered to issue ‘stop-work’ order if they found serious lapses/deviation in the construction from the proposed plan.
