VIJAYAWADA: In a move to grant land to the landless poor, the state govt has constituted new District Level Assignment Committees (DLACs). The district in-charge minister will chair the committee while the ministers from the district will be its members.

Taking the vast available land in several districts into consideration, the govt is contemplating to launch the assignment of land to the landless agriculture poor. Previous YSRCP govt had granted about 20-25 lakh house-sites by purchasing private land by spending huge public money. Vigilance and enforcement wing also found massive irregularities in procurement of land for distribution of house-sites. The previous govt also freed up assigned lands from the restrictions by allowing the sale of the land.

After finding irregularities, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu decided to take up the assignment of land through district level committees. The CM is keen to revive the distribution of agriculture land to the landless poor in addition to the distribution of house-sites. In fact, the distribution of agriculture land to the landless poor was stalled several years ago due to the non-availability of land. Sources said that the govt is anticipating to get huge extent of land into its fold after completion of the ongoing resurvey project. The land available would be utilized for various purposes including allocation to the industrial development and also for assignment to the agriculture poor. The state govt made the joint collector as member convenor while MLAs and MLCs of the specific constituencies, where the assignment of the land is proposed, will be made members of the newly constituted DLACs. “The state govt has decided to constitute new District Level Assignment Committees (DLACs) with district in-charge minister as chairman following the report submitted by the chief commissioner of land administration,” said special chief secretary (revenue), RP Sisodia.

He said that the committees will examine various proposals to grant land to the landless poor. He said that the committees have also been entrusted to consider the assignment of land to the requests from the ex-servicemen. “The land for the landless poor could be granted either from the vacant govt land or ceiling surplus land whichever is at the disposal of the DLACs,” said Sisodia.
