VIJAYAWADA: Municipal administration and urban development minister P Narayana has said that the first phase of Amaravati capital city works would be completed in 30 months. Narayana, who inspected various pending works in the capital city region on Saturday, said the NDA government will work towards making Amaravati the best city in the world.

“The TDP govt had called for tenders for Amaravati capital city works worth 49,000 crore in 2019. But after we lost the elections, the YSRCP govt shelved the capital city project. Many works were stalled midway and we are unable to assess their status. We have formed a committee to prepare a detailed analysis report on the status of works in Amaravati. It would take around two months to assess the current situation before restarting construction works. The cabinet will take a call on whether to continue with the old tenders or issue fresh ones for capital construction,” Narayana, who also held the same portfolios during the 2014-19 TDP rule, said.

Govt to resume works on colonies

He further said that housing colonies for MLAs, MPs, and govt employees were about 70 per cent complete when they were shelved by the previous govt. “The NDA govt will resume these works soon. We remember the sacrifices made by Amaravati farmers, and the govt will suitably compensate each and every farmer who gave away their lands for the capital. Any pending lease dues and other financial matters would be settled with the farmers soon,” the minister added. On the garbage collection charges in municipal areas across the state, Narayana said an appropriate decision would be taken soon.
