Angela Sahi has been promoted to president and chief operating officer at Morguard Corporation (MRC-T), the latest chapter in her nearly 19-year career at the company.
Sahi will oversee Morguard’s Canadian multi-suite residential, office, industrial, retail and U.S. operations, plus national programs, valuations, research and corporate marketing.
“I am grateful for the trust and support of the board of directors and I am committed to leading Morguard toward continued growth and success,” Sahi said in a released statement.
“I am confident in her abilities to lead our operations on a path of continued growth and achievement,” added Sahi’s father, Morguard chairman and CEO Rai Sahi, in the same release.
Angela Sahi was previously executive vice-president of residential, office and industrial at Morguard, which she joined in 2006 following seven years at Ernst & Young LLP.
Her time at EY included a consulting position in New York at its real estate advisory group and business risk services group, as well as work at EY’s audit and tax groups in Toronto.
Fischer new president at Savills Canada
Ruth Fischer has joined Savills as president of its Canadian operations. She will be responsible for all aspects of the company’s business in Canada, including current offices in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Edmonton, as well as any future Canadian service lines.
During a career in commercial real estate spanning more than two decades, Fischer has honed her expertise in areas such as brokerage, urban planning, client diagnostics, portfolio and workplace strategy.
She moves to Savills after 14 years at CBRE where, as managing director of operations in Quebec, she led brokerage activities in Montreal, Quebec City and Saint-Laurent.
While at CBRE, Fischer also founded the Canadian client solutions team, launched the Canadian client care program and won two awards: CBRE’s Canadian national award of distinction (2020) and its MVP award for North America (2018).
McEwen named president, Timbercreek Alternatives
Fraser McEwen has joined Timbercreek Capital as president of Timbercreek Alternatives, a newly created role within the company.
He’ll focus on expanding Timbercreek’s alternative investment offerings to the wealth management, high-net-worth and family office investor channels.
McEwen joins Timbercreek from Slate Securities (a division of Slate Asset Management), where he was a co-founding partner and helped establish Slate’s real estate investment fund platform across both public and private markets.
Prior to that, he spent eight years at GMP Securities and a decade at HSBC, where he attained the title of senior vice-president. McEwen started his career as a trader in the portfolio management division of O’Donnell Mutual Funds.
Pernicone promoted, Bonin joins JLL
JLL has announced a promotion within its ranks and welcomed a new addition to the firm.
Jessica Pernicone has been promoted to global head of solutions development for the company’s Work Dynamics business.
She specializes in technology-enabled solutions for real estate portfolio management in sectors such as life sciences, financial services and manufacturing.
Pernicone has been with JLL since 2013 and was most recently head of sales for the Americas in its Work Dynamics division. Before joining JLL, Jessica worked in various roles at DTZ, EMCOR Facilities Services and UMS Group.
New to the firm is Dominic Bonin, who has joined JLL Canada as senior vice-president of its Montreal-based industrial platform. He brings with him 12 years of experience in industrial leasing, investment sales and property and asset management.
His previous job was vice-president of asset management for the Skyline Industrial REIT at Skyline Group, where he oversaw 10 million square feet of industrial properties and a team of 20 real estate professionals across Canada.
Prior to his eight-year tenure at Skyline Group, Bonin kicked off his career at CBRE Canada in 2012.
Emergia shakes up board
Emergia Inc. (EMER-CN) has made several changes to its board of directors.
The new chairman of the board is Faraj Nakhleh, who has been serving as an independent board director since 2022. He takes over the chairmanship from Henri Petit, who has resigned from that role to devote more time to his position as president and CEO of the company.
Joseph Cianci, Francois Castonguay, Luigi Valeriati and Roy Scaini have also stepped down from their positions as directors. Joining the board as newly appointed independent directors are Hasan Shawa, Yannick Richard and Stephen Reisler.
Christy becomes OREB CEO
Nicole Christy is the new CEO of the Ottawa Real Estate Board (OREB).
She joins OREB after working as vice-president of corporate governance and leadership development at the London and St. Thomas Association of REALTORS (LSTAR).
Before joining LSTAR in 2021, Christy worked in various government relations positions at the Canadian Home Builders’ Association, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA).
Christy’s appointment as OREB CEO is effective June 1. She succeeds Janice Myers, who left OREB after a decade to become the new CEO of CREA.
Capstone adds to investment team
Capstone Asset Management has bolstered its investment team by adding two new members.
James Jung has been appointed senior portfolio manager, fixed income.
He was previously CEO of LOGYX Management Solutions, a division of Avenue Living Asset Management. Jung’s other prior roles include president and chief investment officer at Pinnacle Wealth Brokers and senior vice-president of energy and banking at DBRS Limited.
Also joining Capstone is Clayton Rutquist, who has been appointed director of real estate investments.
He was most recently commercial capital advisor at Ashdown Capital. Rutquist’s 24-year career in finance, underwriting and real estate includes past positions at GE Real Estate, HSBC, CIBC and Argus Properties Ltd.
