The residents of Anjanapura BDA Layout are expressing serious concerns over the proposed relocation of slums to their area. The layout, which was developed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) 25 years ago, continues to struggle with basic amenities, including the lack of a proper water supply. Residents rely on water tankers for their daily needs, as piped water is not yet available.

The situation changed when the Karnataka Slum Development Board decided to relocate slum dwellers from Kengeri and Shankarpally to Anjanapura, instead of the initially planned Uttarahalli and Gollahalli. Due to strong opposition from Gollahalli residents, the relocation site was moved to Kembathalli Village near NICE Road.

Residents strongly opposed this move. “It is unfair, and we should not allow this at any cost. The crime rate is already increasing, and with slum dwellers moving in, we don’t want anything to go wrong,” said a resident.

The Anjanapura Further Extension 9th, 10th and 11th Block Residents Welfare Association recently wrote a letter to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Bengaluru Urban, KA Dayanananda, expressing their concerns. The letter stated, “The slum is planned in the middle of Anjanapura’s 10th and 11th blocks, next to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board water tank, which has high chances of contamination of water resources in the area. It will cause a severe adverse impact on the peace and security of the area.”

Another resident voiced concerns, saying, “BDA has not planned any civic facilities like schools, gardens, or play areas for children.

Tap water is not provided to residents yet, and this move by the slum board has created panic among all residents.”
