DIBRUGARH: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated India’s largest residential PMAY colony in Dibrugarh. Located at Namsang tea estate in Naharkatia, the colony boasts of 113 housing units and a range of amenities aimed at improving the quality of life for its residents, reports Rajib Dutta.
With its inauguration, the residential PMAY colony has set a new benchmark in affordable housing initiatives, surpassing the previous record held by Uttar Pradesh with a 100 housing unit colony.
The sprawling colony, built on 32 bighas of land within the scenic surroundings of Namsang tea estate near the Dihing Patkai National Park, has been constructed at a cost of Rs 4 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
