MUMBAI: A decision to provide housing to occupants of govt colony in Bandra (East) was taken in the cabinet meeting on Thursday.
A high-level committee under the chairmanship of chief secretary Sujata Saunik will take a decision regarding the location, number of govt employees and other procedures, said officials.
Last year, chief minister Eknath Shinde directed the submission of a detailed plan for redevelopment.
The colony stands on 90 acres of govt land and was constructed between 1958 and 1973. There are 4,782 flats for first-class to fourth-class officers and employees of the state.
“Out of these, 169 buildings are dangerous and 68 are super-dangerous,” an official said. “The remaining 101 buildings will be vacated, and service accommodation will be given to the employees through a lottery.”
The construction of 12 buildings is in progress. “One of the 12 buildings will be given to Savitribai Phule Govt Hostel,” the official said.
Around 30 acres of land will be earmarked in the colony for the new Bombay high court complex, said officials.
Last month, Chief Justice of India, D Y Chandrachud, laid the foundation stone of the new high court building complex. Of the 30 acres of land, 4.3 acres has already been handed over to the high court.
Officials said possession was being handed over in a phased manner.
“It will have world-class infrastructure, including well-designed and spacious courtrooms, chambers for judges and registry personnel, an arbitration and mediation centre, an auditorium, a library, as well as a host of features and amenities for staff, lawyers, and litigants,” an official said.
In the cabinet meeting, approval was given to name the subway and flyover on the Katraj-Kondhwa tretch of national highway in Pune after RSS sarsanghchalak Balasaheb Devras.
“Pune Municipal Corporation had given this proposal as requested by Pune Medical Services and Research Foundation. A request to name this square and the subway after Balasaheb Deoras. Accordingly, it was approved to name it after Balasaheb Deoras, the third sarsanghchalak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh,” an official said.
