BENGALURU: BBMP is likely to seek an outlay of Rs 14,000 crore for the city in the state budget for 2025-26 fiscal.

While the civic body had presented a Rs 13,000-crore budget for 2024-25, this time it is expected to seek an allocation between Rs 13,000 crore and Rs 14,000 crore. Discussions with the state govt are scheduled for the first week of Feb to finalise the budgetary outlay for Bengaluru city.

Zonal commissioners had submitted separate proposals, but officials identified challenges in implementing them. A senior finance official said BBMP finds a centralised budget more practical for future operations.

Previously, BBMP decentralised the chief commissioner’s powers by appointing eight IAS officers as zonal commissioners. Consequently, tasks like bill payments and other administrative work have been taking place at the zonal level. With this decentralised structure, there were considerations to present the 2025-26 budget in a zonal format. The BBMP chief commissioner and the special commissioner (finance) instructed all zonal commissioners to submit separate budget proposals.

Chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath confirmed zonal commissioners have already submitted their proposals and a consolidated presentation will be made before the state govt. The BBMP budget will focus on maintenance and new projects such as tunnel roads, stormwater drains, and lake rejuvenation. Zones like Mahadevapura and RR Nagar might receive more focus.
