PATNA: Chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena said on Wednesday that the govt is working on a mission mode to provide houses to all in urban areas by Aug 2025.
According to the official data shared by the office of the chief secretary, the construction of a total of 264,604 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Shahri is underway. Out of these, the construction of 148,630 houses has been completed, while work on 117,974 houses is going on.
“Construction has been sped up, and in the past three months, the construction of 41,080 houses was completed. Continuing at this pace, it is targeted to complete the rest of the work by Aug 2025,” said a statement shared with the media.
Apart from this, a survey is also ongoing to identify any individuals who may have been missed from the list. This survey work will be completed by Feb this year.
Under different schemes for providing homes to the homeless in urban areas, those who own land will be given Rs 2 lakh for the construction of a house under beneficiary-led construction. The share of the Centre will be Rs 1.50 lakh, while the remaining Rs 50,000 will be provided by the state govt. Families that do not own any land and are living in slums will be given residences under the institutional development programme.
Residences will also be made under the govt’s real estate policy for the economically weaker section, and they will be given houses that fall under the low-income group.
The chief secretary further said that to address the shortage of engineers in local urban bodies, the services of retired engineers are being utilised, and nearly 500 junior engineers have been recruited to carry out the work in mission mode.
