MUMBAI: BMC additional commissioner Ashwini Joshi on Wednesday directed civic officials to strictly follow the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court regarding unauthorised constructions and also take comprehensive action.

The Supreme Court has laid down some guidelines regarding action to evict unauthorised construction. Most of these guidelines are already being followed by the civic body. However, as per the directions of the Supreme Court, extensive action should be taken by strictly following the guidelines including videography while carrying out action against unauthorised constructions.

After reviewing the action taken so far, Joshi said that the pace of eviction action taken between Jan and March 2025 is somewhat slow and it is necessary to intensify the pace of action in the months of April and May and take necessary action before monsoon. The departments concerned should provide detailed information about the unauthorised constructions to the tax assessment department and immediately levy fine on the concerned construction, Joshi directed the officials.
