KOLKATA: The Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued 174 stop-work notices to developers of illegal under-construction buildings in the past nine months. These buildings have been found to be constructed without any sanctioned plan or gross deviation from the plan. FIRs have been lodged against 30 developers for violating the stop-work notice.
Also, following intimation to the banks not to sanction home loan to any applicant without verifying whether the building has been constructed as per plans sanctioned by BMC, the civic authorities have received close to 350 verification letters from different banks, out of which in nearly half the cases the buildings have been found to be illegally constructed.
The civic body has also formed special teams for each of the six boroughs which will start conducting inspections to check whether all upcoming buildings are being constructed as per the sanctioned plans. Each team will be led by a sub-assistant engineer.
Civic officials also said that attempts were going on to fill up two ponds, one each in ward 2 and ward 3, which have been detected and prevented.
