PANAJI: The high court of Bombay at Goa has taken suo motu cognisance of illegal constructions that have been mushrooming across the state and has registered a new petition.
Advocate general Devidas Pangam told reporters that the high court is concerned about all illegal constructions by the side of roads, in coastal regulation zones (CRZ), and within the jurisdictions of panchayats and municipalities.
The court is also concerned about the constructions that are coming up overnight in the state, both of temporary and permanent nature, Pangam said.
“The high court said that it will monitor all these to find out whether the village panchayats concerned are taking any action against illegal activities and also whether action is being taken by the director of panchayats against the panchayats concerned for failing to take action,” the advocate general said. “The high court is going to monitor this continuously.”
He further said, “No directions have been passed, but the order says that govt should consider a solution as far as this menace of illegal constructions overnight, especially on weekends, is concerned.”
The high court has made govt of Goa and the director of panchayats parties in the case and will also decide which other govt authorities to include and what further orders to pass on an urgent basis.
The matter will come up for hearing on Oct 22.
