THANE: A senior official of Thane Municipal Corporation was sent on ‘compulsory leave’ following the allegations of protecting the illegal construction in Kalwa ward of Thane.

Subodh Thanekar, the assistant municipal commissioner of the kalwa ward was the sent-on leave, confirmed Abhijeet Bangar, the civic chief.

“we had in the past received several complaints in the past about the unauthorised constructions in the area following the inquiry we have initiated action,” Bangar told TOI.

The civic chief further added he had earlier issued notice to Thanekar and was told to submit his say however, but it was not satisfactory hence he was sent on compulsory leave.

The NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad and BJP MLA Sanjay Kelkar in the past had raised the issue of illegal buildings mushrooming in the Kalwa ward in the assembly sessions. Both had alleged that the civic body is turning blind eye to the unauthorised constructions and had blamed the civic official who they alleged that they are hand in glove with the builders of illegal constructions.

On the other hand, citizens allege that the entire crux of illegal constructions is that the apartments of illegal buildings are registered as legal flats by forging the Commencement Certificate (CC) and Occupation Certificate (OC) of illegal buildings located in Kalwa .
