Dharwad deputy commissioner, ET RealEstate

DHARWAD: A campaign to issue e-khata to properties in the urban local bodies (ULB) of the district has been launched and we aim to complete the process within the next three months, said deputy commissioner Divya Prabhu.

The DC has directed the heads of ULBs to provide necessary information to the public and ensure timely action.

On Wednesday, she said citizens who need to make corrections in their property records can submit the required documents to their respective ULBs. Amendments have been made to the laws and regulations to allow even unauthorised properties to obtain e-khata, enabling owners to pay property tax and legalise their records.

This decision resolves long-standing issues related to unauthorised property records.

“This law applies to properties registered before Sept 10, 2024. Since this campaign serves as a one-time solution, the public is urged to take advantage of it. Extensive publicity efforts have been directed to ensure that citizens are aware of this opportunity,” said Divya.

Property details for ULBs in Dharwad district have been published on http://aasthikanaja.karnatakasmartcity.in and citizens can visit the website to verify their property details.

Application process

The deputy commissioner said the property owners must visit their respective ULBs and participate in ward-wise organised e-khata melas (registration fairs). They need to submit the necessary documents and can obtain e-khata within seven days.

To assist the public, helplines have been set up in all ULBs of Dharwad district and Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation: Phone: 0836-2213821, WhatsApp: 8277802341

Citizens are encouraged to utilise these helplines for assistance in obtaining e-khata.

Procedure for issuing e-khata

Properties without e-khata will be identified by the ULBs. Property owners will be informed about the necessary documents for obtaining e-khata.

As part of the campaign, urban local bodies will organise e-khata fairs in designated areas, including apartments, layouts, and neighbourhoods. Citizen groups and welfare associations will be engaged in the process. Lists of properties without e-khata will be displayed in relevant locations.

The e-khata melas will provide clear guidance on required documents, categorised separately for authorised and unauthorised properties. The campaign will run until May, ensuring that all eligible properties within the ULBs receive e-khata.
