HYDERABAD: Officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Wednesday sealed the gates of the Taj Banjara Hotel on Road No. 1 in Banjara Hills for unpaid property tax amounting to Rs 1.43 crore accumulated over two years.
The hotel, which has not been operational for the past two years, saw immediate action from its owners after the sealing.
“Despite several show-cause notices issued over the past two years, the hotel management failed to clear its outstanding property tax dues, following which the department took action against the establishment by sealing the gate,” said Mahesh Kulkarni, chief valuation officer of the civic body.
Following the action, the hotel management transferred Rs 52 lakh through an RTGS payment by 9.30 am on Thursday, clearing about 50% of the pending dues. “We have received confirmation of the partial payment,” Kulkarni added.
As there is no confirmed change in the sealed gates, officials said that once the dues are fully cleared, the seal will be removed. The defaulter has also assured the corporation that the remaining dues of around Rs 91 lakh will be paid in full by March 10.
