MUMBAI: State housing minister Atul Save told the state assembly on Friday that the increased service charges would be waived for 56 Mhada colonies in the city.
This means a sum of Rs 380 crores will be waived, benefiting 50,000 residents. The service charge had been increased between 1998 and 2021 but this had not been implemented.
A study group had been set up on this issue which had recommended a 50% reduction from the service charged by Mhada.
Hence the services charged by Mhada were reduced by 50% but BEST and BMC did not reduce the charges for their services.
Mhada then had a deficit of Rs 472 crores and introduced an amnesty scheme but this did not receive much response from residents.
