NASHIK: Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) commissioner Manisha Khatri instructed the three private agencies deployed by the civic body for the distribution of property tax bills to conduct a survey to identify new properties without the levy of property tax.

Khatri’s instructions came during a recent meeting with these private agencies. These agencies have already received work orders from the NMC and will start their work from April 1.

The NMC administration appointed three private agencies for three years for the distribution of tax bills to the property owners concerned. Each agency will oversee two divisions for the distribution of bills. They will also identify new properties which are being used by the residents but without the levy of the property tax.

The NMC Commissioner Manisha Khatri said the objective is to discover new properties and bring them under the tax net so that the revenue of the NMC will increase through property tax. “I had a meeting with the three private agencies. They were instructed to conduct surveys of the new properties which were given building completion certificates (BCCs), but are not under the property tax net,” she said.

During the surveys, the agencies will ensure whether the residential properties are being utilised for commercial purposes without ‘change in use’ permission from the civic body.

The property tax is to be recovered from these properties as per the commercial rates of the property tax, which is more than the residential rate of property tax, said the NMC officials, adding that the work orders were already issued to these agencies which are expected to start the work in the next few days. Presently, the NMC has a total of 5.60 lakh properties across all six divisions of the city.
