NEW DELHI: Continuing its action against properties over non-payment of property tax, New Delhi Municipal Council on Friday attached a portion of a commercial complex near Gole Market. It also attached seven properties in Khan Market.
“We attached only a portion of the commercial complex in Gole Market because there are so many govt offices operating inside it, and complete attachment will affect their smooth operation. We have given two days’ time to the land-owning agency to pay the dues,” said an NDMC official.
“At Khan Market, five days’ notices have been issued to the defaulting shops and residential complexes. Since people are living here, we don’t want any inconvenience to anyone. But the property owners have to pay the tax on time to avoid action,” the official asserted.
Meanwhile, three tax collection counters have been designated at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Place in Gole Market, Palika Bhawan in RK Puram, and Palika Kendra in Sansad Marg. Till March 31, these counters will remain open on weekends as well.
As of mid-Feb 2024-25, Rs 807 crore was collected from 9,600 taxable properties. NDMC aims to collect Rs 1,150 crore from property tax in 2024-25, compared to Rs 1,030 crore collected in 2023-24.
