UDHAGAMANDALAM: The Nilgiris administration has started crackdown on unauthorized buildings in the district. On Tuesday evening, revenue officials sealed an unauthorized building, measuring 5,000 square feet, at Karimora in Ubhathalai panchayat.
Additional collector H R Kaushik said other identified unauthorized buildings in the district would also be sealed in the coming days. “Legal procedures for the same are under way,” he said.
“The sealed building was seen during our inspection. It has been on the radar for the past few months. Two notices were issued, and the final notice was pending for a while,” said Kaushik. After following all the legal aspects duly, the final notice was issued to the owner of the building last week regarding sealing of the premises, he said.
The owner of the property, hailing from a neighbouring state, had obtained two building approvals for around 2,499 square feet each, meant for houses.
“Ideally, the approvals should have come to the AAA Committee (Architectural Aesthetic Aspects Committee) for the final sanction as it is located in a panchayat. Also, the building with more built-up area than the approval sought had been used for commercial purposes as a tourist stay,” said Kaushik.
“We have identified a few more unauthorized buildings in the district. Wherever violations of building rules are noticed, we will take action legally after following procedural formalities accordingly,” he added.
