MANGALURU: Harekala village gram panchayat in Ullal taluk under Mangaluru assembly constituency, which is represented by speaker UT Khader, is in the final stage of allotting sites for more than 270 homeless families.
The GP has already identified 9.5 acres in Malar village, and a final list of beneficiaries will be prepared soon, said Majeed Harekala, vice-president of the GP. Majeed told TOI that it will be a comprehensive layout, complete with essential infrastructure, designed to enhance the living conditions and comfort of village families as envisaged by MLA Khader.
“Harekala gram panchayat had distributed sites for families more than two decades ago. Recently, our MLA directed the revenue officials to identify land and fulfil the dreams of families whose applications for sites are pending in the gram panchayat. We have 279 applications for sites pending in the gram panchayat. The tahsildar, revenue inspector, and the village accountant have been verifying applications, and all eligible families will be shortlisted to allot sites free of cost,” Majeed said.
The gram panchayat plans to allot single sites of three cents each to families. In fact, the land identified in Malar village was hilly terrain. Using earthmover machines, the land was levelled, and the process of site allotment will begin soon. Only homeless families will be given sites on priority. Officials will check thoroughly to ensure multiple applications from the same families are not cleared. Later, the gram panchayat will write to the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Limited to build houses for the families under govt schemes, he said.
The gram panchayat has revenue land in other places, which can also be developed into layouts. The gram panchayat has also submitted proposals to sanction land to develop similar layouts, he added.
Officials stated that speaker Khader has given instructions to expedite the process and ensure that all eligible families are given sites.
