JAIPUR: State govt announced, Wednesday, allocation of Rs12,000 crore for the construction of Jaipur Metro Line 2, extending from Sitapura to Ambabari and Vidhyadhar Nagar—the first such funding since the Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation (JMRC) was formed 15 years ago.

Finance minister Diya Kumari announced that the project will be executed by the newly formed Rajasthan Metro Railway Corporation (RMRC), a joint venture between the Centre and the state. She also officially announced Wednesday that the govt would withdraw the BRTS project in Jaipur.

“RMRC would undertake the construction of Metro Line 2 connecting the Sitapura Industrial Area and Ambabari, further extending till Vidhyadhar Nagar. The project would cost Rs 12,000 crore,” Kumari said.

During last year’s state Budget, the FM announced the extension of the proposed Metro Line 2 on the north-western side from Ambabari to Vidhyadhar Nagar. It was specified that JMRC would prepare a revised DPR for Line 2.

Accordingly, JMRC initiated preparing one revised DPR for the Sitapura-Ambabari stretch and another for the Ambabari to Vidhyadhar Nagar stretch.

“The DPR is virtually complete. Now, it’s incumbent upon the state govt to approve the DPR and grant clearance for the construction works,” a metro official added.

Furthermore, the FM on Wednesday declared that RMRC would now prepare DPRs to extend metro till the annexed areas of Jagatpura and Vaishali Nagar.

Officials from Urban Development and Housing (UDH) Department indicated that the decision emerged after the state govt resolved to dismantle the Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) corridors on the city roads.

“Additionally, I am announcing developmental projects worth Rs 250 crore for the Jaipur city,” added Kumari in her Budget speech.
