A fire early Friday morning appears to have destroyed the Los Angeles home of Cara Delevingne, according to TMZ. Thankfully, the model and actor is safe from the inferno and is currently overseas in her native England, where she’s been sharing updates via Instagram. Delevingne assured worried fans that her two Persian cats are unharmed and thanked firefighters who responded to the incident. NBC Los Angeles reports that the fire burned for more than two hours. While the cause of the blaze is currently unclear, aerial photos seem to suggest catastrophic damage to the house, which was featured on the cover of AD’s July/August 2021 issue.
Delevingne’s two-story white-brick English-country-style home was built in 1941. For AD’s story, and its corresponding Open Door video, she welcomed the world into the abode to discuss its whimsical design. Repeat collaborator Nicolò Bini of Line Architecture helped bring Delevingne’s exuberant vision—a fusion of St. Tropez luxury getaway and pure carnival fun—to life.
“When my friends come over, the house turns into an obstacle course. It’s like an indoor-outdoor playground by way of Alice in Wonderland,” Delevingne said at the time of the tour. “If I’m having a bad day, I just hop in the ball pit. You can’t really cry in a ball pit.”
A few touches that nodded to nature included Gucci wallpapers featuring large herons, the billiards room’s snake carpet, and a depiction of a leopard on the carpet covering the stairs. Other playful elements included two in-ground trampolines, a swimming pool stocked with colorful floaties, a swanky poker room swathed in crimson drapery, and a display of her guitar collection, featuring one signed by David Bowie. The model is a Bowie superfan and crafted one space in the home as an homage to the Starman in what AD West Coast editor Mayer Rus described as a “David Bowie memorial bathroom.”
“It’s the design equivalent of a jaw drop,” Delevingne said. “There’s no mistaking whose house you’re in.”
