NASHIK: Chief minister Eknath Shinde has assured of freehold status for all houses of the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (Cidco) in Nashik city. The CM also instructed CIDCO chairman Sanjay Shirsat to prepare the relevant proposal and get it approved.
Shinde’s assurances came while he was addressing a gathering at a local programme for the Balasaheb Thackeray Smriti Udyan in the Gangapur Road area on Saturday.
The chief minister also assured the residents of the city that he would look into their demands regarding the revision of higher property tax levied on residential and commercial properties.
There are more than 50,000 residential and commercial properties that were constructed by Cidco and were sold on lease to the residents around 40-50 years ago in Nashik city. For the past many years, residents of the Cidco area have been asking state govt to convert the properties within Cidco’s jurisdiction from leasehold to freehold.
Ajay Boraste, Shiv Sena deputy leader and former leader of opposition in the Nashik civic body, said the properties were leased out by Cidco for a period of 90 years. Cidco residents have been facing many issues. They are unable to develop these leasehold properties. “Therefore, we have been requesting the state govt for the conversion of properties from leasehold to freehold, Chief minister Shinde has also given his assurance on the same. We expect a decision by Cidco soon,” said Boraste.
In Nov 2022, Cidco had decided to shut its Nashik office and transfer the employees to other offices. However, Cidco residents strongly opposed the decision. Giving in to the residents’s wishes, CM Shinde had, at that time, directed the Cidco administration to withdraw its decision to close its Nashik office.
