PANAJI: The office of the North Goa collector has issued instructions to all comunidades and officials concerned to remove illegal and unauthorised dwellings on comunidade and govt land in the district. These instructions were issued following a recent direction from the Supreme Court.

The office of the collector, in a memorandum, asked the administrator of comunidades of the central zone, Panaji, north zone, Mapusa, and deputy collectors of Tiswadi, Bicholim, Bardez, Sattari, and Pernem to implement the judgement passed by the apex court.

They were instructed to take action in the manner prescribed under the Goa Land Revenue Code, 1968, and the Goa Land (Prohibition on Construction) Act, 1995. They were also told that the action taken report in each case must be submitted to the North Goa collector’s office at the end of every month.

Recently, the authorities concerned demolished 35-odd unauthorised houses built on govt land in Cunchelim, Mapusa.

The land was designated for a multi-faith burial ground and cemetery.

Several individuals were accused of illegally occupying this land and building homes without permission.
