PANAJI: The proliferation of unregistered houses within the heritage zone of Old Goa has sparked alarm, prompting social activists to urge the directorate of panchayats to revoke the registration of these properties.
Heritage activist Prajal Sakhardande said that discussions with the state archaeology department revealed that no permissions were sought for these constructions. Social activist Glean Cabral said there are constructions of ground-plus-one structures in Old Goa without permits.
The activists under the banner of ‘Concerned citizens of Goa’ said 21 house numbers are allotted to Sweta Estates in S Nos 20/2, 20/6, 21/1 and 22/2 of village Ella, VP Se-Old Goa.
The land records show this land owned by St Francis Xavier Real Estate. The registered partners of both firms are Amarjit Singh Bakshi and Karwanjit Singh Bakshi of New Delhi.
A complaint was submitted to the panchayat on December 21, 2023, and a show cause notice has been issued to St Francis Xavier and Sweta Estates.
