MYSURU: The controversial 50:50 site-sharing scheme of Mysore Urban Development Authority (Muda) caused a stir at Muda’s board meeting, which was held after 14 months on Thursday.

Some members urged Mysuru DC G Lakshikanth Reddy, who is the MUDA chairman, to fully cancel the allotment of sites under the scheme between 2020 and 2024, calling them unlawful and to restore the credibility of the urban development body.

However, the chairman stated that a decision would be made after the one-man judicial commission submits its findings.

The meeting also approved real estate projects and made decisions on general matters related to the affairs of the urban development body. In total, about 170 issues were addressed, but some decisions were postponed due to insufficient documentation.

Reddy, who was appointed as chairman two weeks earlier, chaired the meeting. He told TOI that the board meeting, which was not held for a year, was conducted at the Muda office on Thursday to discuss various subjects before the board.

Another meeting would be held shortly to decide on various other matters, he added.

MLAs TS Srivatsa, GT Devegowda and K Harishgowda, along with MLC AH Vishwanath, later told reporters that they sought the cancellation of all sites allotted under the controversial 50:50 scheme.

The one-man judicial commission has been given time to submit its findings regarding the alleged scam before mid-Jan. Muda commissioner AN Raghunandan said except for MLA Tanveer Sait, all other members attended the board meeting, which lasted for four hours from 11am.

For the first time, commissioner of police Seema Latkar, who is an ex-officio member of Muda, attended the board meeting. The commissioner of police usually does not attend the meetings regularly, but following the alleged scam at the urban body, the officer stayed until the end of the meeting on Thursday.

Vishwanath, who criticised the chief minister for his alleged involvement in the scam, said over 80,000 site aspirants are expecting Muda to provide sites for them.

He emphasised that the urban body should meet their expectations by resolving the scam and providing them with sites.
