MEERUT: Demolition notices have been posted outside Radhika Enclave, a Bulandshahr colony developed by alleged land mafia kingpin, Sudhir Goyal. The colony has nearly 400 plots sold to unsuspecting buyers.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently seized Goyal’s 58 properties estimated to be worth Rs 27 crore. The colony is one of several illegal developments allegedly done by Goyal and his associates over the past decade.
The kingpin, his wife, and five associates are currently in jail in connection with 25 money laundering cases. He has been accused of misleading buyers by selling the same plot to multiple individuals and using forged papers.
The colony, situated on Gulaothi road, was allegedly constructed without approval from Bulandshahr Development Authority (BDA) and the zila panchayat on their land. Dr Ankur Lather, BDA vice-chairperson, said, “Demolition notices have been issued, and we will follow provisions of the Urban Planning Act in taking further action.”
The notice sets a deadline of February 18 for demolishing all constructions. The BDA is advising affected homeowners on options to buy land in authorised colonies. Compensation or responsibility cannot be provided in such cases, they added.
Bulandshahr zila panchayat also plans similar actions against illegal constructions in Radhika Enclave on its land.
Homebuyers, facing displacement, are now seeking help from authorities.
“Why punish us for someone else’s sins? How did these colonies flourish under officials’ noses for a decade?” Sushil Mittal, a resident, said, urging govt to protect their rights.
