MUMBAI: Dharavi residents not cooperating with the eligibility survey have been warned they would be listed under “Documents Not Received” category in the draft annexure II, warned the Navbharat Mega Developers Pvt Ltd (NMDPL), the special purpose vehicle set up to carry out the Dharavi Redevelopment Project.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the NMDPL stated that so far it covered 80,000 tenements. Posters have been put up in lanes, societies, and tenements where people have been resisting the survey.
NMDPL CEO SVR Srinivas said, “These posters are being put up after three to four attempts to conduct door-to-door surveys. We urge residents to cooperate so that we can complete the survey quickly. Housing for all is our motto, and we do not want anyone to be left out,” he said.
Srinivas mentioned they are deciding to conclude the physical survey for those who have not cooperated and are reluctant to provide their documents.
The state govt announced that only those eligible for free housing and those who were residents of Dharavi prior to 2011 will be rehabilitated in Dharavi itself. The ineligible residents will be provided rental housing on salt pan lands in the eastern suburbs, on dairy land at Kurla, the Deonar dumping ground, and at Madh-Marve in Malad. The rented tenements will be given on an ownership basis after ten years.
The opposition has been demanding that all residents be provided free housing in Dharavi itself. Both the Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) have protested the relocation of the residents. Several neighbourhoods too have opposed the relocation to their areas, citing the absence of infrastructure to absorb more residents.
