PUNE: The district administration has requested Geological Survey of India officials to conduct a survey of four places, including one in Lavasa in Mulshi and Maval tehsils, after several incidents of cracks and landslides on hills were reported from these areas.

Resident deputy collector Jyoti Kadam has written a letter to the GSI office located on Alandi Road in Yerawada in this regard on Wednesday. “There is a panic among people in the landslide-prone areas in Maval and Mulshi following the recent incidents. It is important to conduct a GSI survey to implement some measures,” the letter stated.

The development comes after cracks were reported on a hill in Lohagad on Tuesday, and residents raised an alarm with the district administration. A senior official from the district administration said that similar cracks were reported in Mauje Vegre village in Mulshi last week, following which five families close to the affected site were relocated on Tuesday.

Besides, a landslide was reported near Padalghar, and the mud has slipped up to 3km towards Bhatghar dam, following which five families were shifted to Lavasa on Friday. In all three places, the villages are located a away from the affected site due to which there is no need to relocate more people, an official said.

“We have also found five bungalows in Lavasa that are very close to the three bungalows affected by the landslide, and they are also prone to landslide after this incident. Hence, we have requested a survey of these bungalows as well,” a district administration official said.

Two people were feared trapped after a landslide was reported in Lavasa on July 25. The rescue teams had to call off the search operation after four days of search following further risk of landslide in the area.

The officials of district collectorate have shared the coordinates of these locations with GSI office. “The ground survey is likely to be conducted in the next two to three days,” an official said. Sub-divisional officer of Maval and Mulshi, Surendra Navale, said the survey will help the administration in taking decisions related to evacuation of people.

There is panic among people in Lohagad after cracks were reported, around 300-400m from the village. “We can shift nearby structures of these affected sites following advice from GSI. We will also be able to take a decision on whether it is safe to allow these temporarily relocated residents to go back to their homes,” Navale said.
