DEHRADUN: The municipal corporation in Dehradun reported an increase in property tax collection — Rs 57 crore — for the fiscal year 2023-24, Rs 5 crore more compared to the preceding year and Rs 41 crore to two years ago. Although the projected target for the current fiscal year was Rs 60 crore, DMC hopes with late dues still coming in, it will surpass this figure.

Dharmesh Panauli, tax superintendent, said, “Our revenue was Rs 5 crore more than last year and almost 30% of it was through online channels. The digital payments system has been enhanced and we believe in the coming years, payments through online channels will increase.”

He said there are over 1 lakh registered residential properties in the capital along with approximately 20,000 commercial ones. With advancements in digital infrastructure, the expansion of the property base has contributed to upsurge in revenue. However, the ongoing GIS mapping initiative aimed at accurately documenting properties across Dehradun is under way, with completion expected soon. Initiated in 2021 starting from Kaulagarh, this project is expected to provide DMC with accurate property counts.

Additionally, 50,000 households from 129 slum localities have also been brought under the tax framework further aiding increase in revenue.
