GURUGRAM: DTCP has served around 700 show-cause notices to residential property owners in DLF Phase 3 for carrying out commercial activities. The crackdown, under which 400 fresh notices were issued, is part of an HC-ordered enforcement drive.
The violations predominantly involve properties under the economically weaker section (EWS) category, where 60-square-yard houses have been converted into PGs, guest houses, restaurants, boutiques, beauty parlours, salons, clinics, and general stores.
Property owners have to respond to the notices within seven days with supporting documents.
DTCP enforcement officer Manish Yadav stated, “We are conducting daily inspections to check unauthorised activities and ensure compliance with HC orders. Owners who fail to adhere to the rules will face strict penalties, including FIRs under the Urban Development Act.”
The action stems from a 2020 petition filed by the DLF City RWA in the Punjab and Haryana HC. The petition alleged rampant illegal commercial activities in properties designated for residential use. The court then directed the department to survey the area and take corrective measures. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for Jan 10, when the department will present its progress report.
While DTCP has assured that its actions are in accordance with the HC directives, residents have expressed mixed reactions to the crackdown.
Shalini Mehra, a resident, said, “Illegal businesses disrupt the residential nature of our community. They lead to increased traffic, waste, and noise, making it difficult for families to live peacefully.”
However, some residents remain sceptical about the enforcement drive’s long-term impact. Ramesh Kumar, who owns a nearby shop, commented, “While the crackdown is necessary, the department needs to ensure fair treatment. Many people rely on these small businesses for their livelihood. The government should provide clear guidelines and alternatives.”
