GHAZIABAD: The developer of the Wave City project has lodged a complaint with GDA alleging that some ‘anti-social’ elements had joined a group of protesting farmers to prevent allottees from building houses even after the registry of their plots.

Wave City, a part of the Hi-Tech integrated township policy, ran into rough weather for various reasons since 2021. On Aug 5 this year, the GDA board approved a revised detailed project report of the township. This raised the hope of about 12,000 allottees who invested in the project.

“Despite purchasing land, people are not able to build houses on their plots. Some anti-social elements are forcibly preventing allottees from building houses by claiming that this land is theirs, while the allottees have the registration documents of their plots,” a spokesperson of Wave Group said. The developer has submitted an FIR in the matter.

Since Aug, farmers have been protesting against the developer for allegedly going back on its promises made in 2014 to provide them with developed land. Farmers demonstrated against Wave Group on Aug 21 and then again on Sept 18, when the CM was in the city.

“Farmers of the 18 villages from which land was acquired were supposed to get developed land. Landless farmers, who worked on the acquired farmland, were to be provided with 70sqm plots for dwelling units in the township’s LIG scheme,” Lokesh Nagar, a farmer, said.

Wave Group spokesperson, meanwhile, claimed that the developer had offered developed plots to some farmers. “As per the agreement, the developed plots could not be sold for 5 years, but many sold them anyway. Additionally, for the Rs 7 lakh per bigha to Rs 22 lakh per bigha land which was acquired, the farmers were supposed to pay up to 8%, which they haven’t. This is a violation of the agreement.”

A GDA official told TOI that efforts were underway to bring the two groups to the discussion table.
