GURUGRAM: The enforcement wing of the department of town and country planning (DTCP) has written to the police, seeking registration of FIRs against developers of 10 illegal colonies that were built on agricultural land without taking mandatory permission from competent authorities. These illegal colonies were developed in Sohna, Pataudi and Farrukhnagar in the past few months.

The enforcement team recently razed these colonies and sought legal action against the violators. The department will also write to the revenue department to recover the expenses incurred on the demolition drives from the land owners.

District town planner (enforcement) Manish Yadav said, “We have recommended to register ten separate FIRs against the persons involved in these ten violations. These ten colonies were being developed in about 60-70 acres.”

He added that the department has also started writing letters to revenue officials for recovery of expenses incurred on the demolition drives.

In the last few months, demolition drives have been carried out by the department against illegal colonies in Pataudi, Farukhnagar, Sohna, when several under construction structures and road networks were demolished. Developing illegal colonies is a violation under the Haryana Urban Development Act, 1975.

Another official from the department said, “We are scanning the revenue records to identify the defaulting land owners so FIR can be lodged against them. Now the department has sent a recommendation to register FIR against more than 50 land owners for developing four illegal colonies in Farrukhnagar, three in Sohna and three in Pataudi.”

“To crack down on such illegal colonies, teams have been formed by DTP (Enforcement) to conduct surveys in their respective areas and identify illegal colonies. As soon as the colony gets identified, a show cause notice will be issued by the department and a reply will be sought. In case a satisfactory reply is not received, orders for restoration are issued. Even after this, if the colony land is not restored, then demolition action is carried out,” said an official.
