Four people booked for illegal sand mining in Trichy, Real Estate News, ET RealEstate

TRICHY: Police launched an investigation into two incidents of illegal sand mining and booked cases against four people on Thursday. According to the complaint lodged by village administrative officer Kannan, he was patrolling near Lalgudi bus stop on Wednesday evening when he found a tipper truck loaded with illegally mined sand.

Acting on his complaint, the Kollidam police seized the vehicle with two units of sand, but its driver was absconding. A case has been booked against truck owner U Gomathi Priya and the driver.

In another incident, Thiruverumbur police found a mini-truck loaded with sand near a church at Keelamullaikudi. On seeing the police, the two escaped. The vehicle with half a unit of sand was seized.

A total of 82,190 cubic metres of sand is available at the seven sites in the two major rivers, out of which 25,500 cubic metres can be extracted for mining purpose, the report said.
