The Bengaluru Metro’s Phase 3 project has officially begun, with geo technical investigation underway on key stretches, including Kempapura to JP Nagar 4th Phase and Magadi Road.
Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has awarded contracts to three companies to conduct soil studies for the 44.65 kilometre stretch of Phase 3. The first company is handling the first phase of the investigation from Mysuru Road Station to Kanteerava Studio Station, while the second phase covers Hosahalli Station to Kadabagere Station via Sunkadakatte Depot.
The second company has secured a tender worth Rs 1.32 crore to conduct surveys between Kanteerava Studio and Kempapura Station. A third company, also awarded Rs 1.32 crore, is responsible for the investigation from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Mysuru Road Station. According to project guidelines, all soil testing must be completed within five months.
The geotechnical reports must be submitted within 15 months, as they are essential for determining the location of metro pillars and stations, which will ultimately impact the financial planning of the project. The investigation uses hydraulic drilling machines to create boreholes with diameters of 75 to 100 millimetres, reaching depths of up to 40 metres. These samples provide crucial information about the soil and rock composition, helping engineers finalise foundation designs and pillar placement. This analysis will also aid in selecting the appropriate construction methods and technologies.Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 will span 22 stations, connecting Kempapura to JP Nagar 4th Phase. The project includes the 32.15 km Outer Ring Road (ORR) segment, known as the Orange Line, with nine stations, and a 12.5 km stretch from Kadabagere to Hosahalli, also with nine stations.
The extended 3.14 km stretch of the Green Line between Nagasandra and Madavara will undergo inspection by the Commission for Railway Safety on October 3 and 4. This follows the completion of trial runs and signal testing along the route.
The current metro line, which runs from Silk Board to Nagasandra, is being extended to Madavara near the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, at a cost of Rs 298 crore. This extension will benefit multiple groups. Commuters traveling between Tumakuru & Bengaluru will be able to cover a significant part of their journey via metro.
