P: Dissatisfied with the bids received for the commercial plots at Verna Industrial Estate, which were put up for lease through an e-auction, the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) intends to hold a fresh auction.

The GIDC has also begun the process to issue the allotment letters for the 16 industrial plots that were auctioned in March.

“We have auctioned three commercial plots. One was meant for a hotel and the other two are generic commercial plots. Both the generic commercial plots went for good prices, with Rs 25,300 being the highest bid we got per sqm,” said GIDC managing director Pravimal Abhishek. “For the hotel plot, we got a price of around Rs 8,600, which we did not find reasonable. So, we cancelled the auction and are planning a re-auction.”

The commercial plots at Verna Industrial Estate range from 2,000sqm to 5,100sqm.

The corporation’s move to e-auction the industrial plots worked well as it raked in Rs 156.6 crore. Though the e-auction was announced before the elections, the GIDC could not issue the allotment letters due to the model code of conduct.

“We did not approach the Election Commission. We decided to wait for the polls to conclude,” Abhishek said.
