BHUBANESWAR : People belonging to the economically weaker section of the society are set to get a new address with the housing and urban development department initiating the allotment process of 20 ready-to-move-in houses built for them by a private developer in the Pahala area.
The houses were built under Model I of the Housing for All Policy of the state govt wherein the private developers got govt land at a subsidised rate to build their housing project and in return they reserve 10% of the housing units for the EWS people.
Accordingly, the first such project in the city has been developed by a private developer in Pahala area where 20 ready-to-move-in houses are all set for allotment to urban poor. The allotment is further done through a newly developed web-based house allotment system.
“Eligible people were invited to apply for a house in the real estate project. We have uploaded a brochure of the project on the new website. The process to register and apply for the houses has also been mentioned in the website,” director (housing) Debasis Singh said.
According to the project details, a separate block has been created in the project where four units of the EWS houses are placed in each of the five floors. The block has a range of facilities such as elevator, two-wheeler parking at the basement and 24×7 water and power supply among others.
Each of the units has a super built-up area of 452 square feet and the price for the housing unit has been fixed at Rs 8.4 lakh. People applying for the project will have to pay 1% of the total price as registration fee.
Earlier, the housing and urban development department had issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) for ensuring transparency in allotment of the houses to eligible beneficiaries. The department officials said nearly 1,500 such units will be ready for allotment by the end of this year.
In the SOP, the department has specified the roles of the promoters, the development authorities as well as the beneficiaries. The department stated that the beneficiary should not own a pucca house and his/her income should be under Rs 2.16 lakh per annum to be eligible for such houses.
