GURUGRAM: MCG officials have been asked to make arrangements to lift 10,000 tonnes of construction and demolition (C&D) waste daily.

In a review meeting of the Solid Waste Environment Exigency Programme (SWEEP), divisional commissioner RC Bidhan told MCG officials ensure registration of vehicles collecting C&D waste area-wise and that their rates be fixed.

“The process of collecting C&D waste from various locations across the city should be accelerated to make the city appear clean as soon as possible. Arrangements should be made to collect at least 10,000 tonnes of C&D waste daily,” said Bidhan in the meeting.

MCG officials said dumping garbage and debris in public places in the city is a punishable offence, and the municipal corporation is continuously taking action against the offenders. This includes seizing vehicles, filing FIRs against drivers and owners at relevant police stations, and imposing heavy fines.

On Thursday, Balpreet Singh, MCG additional commissioner, inspected the areas of illegal waste dumping. He visited several locations and caught five vehicles dumping waste or debris on the spot.

During the inspection, Singh filed an FIR against the tractor-trolley owner and driver of two rickshaws who were found dumping garbage near Sikanderpur metro pillar number 48 and initiated the process to seize the vehicles.
