GURUGRAM: MCG additional commissioner Mahavir Prasad directed officials to remove construction and demolition (C&D) waste that was dumped alongside Rajesh Pilot Road and Golf Course Road Extension.
He issued the instructions during a samadhan camp on Wednesday, following complaints from residents of Sector 55, who said that unauthorised dumping of debris and waste on unoccupied plots along Rajesh Pilot Road and Golf Course Road Extension was causing increased pollution and unsanitary conditions in the vicinity.
The dumping was not only a threat to the environment and health of the residents of the area, but also an eye sore, Prasad said.
The six complainants who raised the issue at the camp requested an enhanced CCTV monitoring and consistent waste collection services in the area. They also called for imposing high penalties on those who engaged in unauthorised waste disposal.
The additional commissioner provided assurance to the complainants and said the municipal corporation would promptly address the matter and assign dedicated teams to ensure cleanliness in the localities.
“I have instructed the officials concerned to ensure immediate resolution of this issue. The civic body will take strict action against illegal dumping and implement appropriate waste management measures.”
TOI reported on Jan 8 that MCG was planning to establish three processing units for treatment of the city’s C&D waste. This initiative was taken after construction debris was spotted dumped throughout the city.
Each of these waste processing units will be equipped to handle a minimum of 300 tonnes of construction waste per day.
According to a survey conducted in 2023 by MCG, there are 10 lakh metric tonnes of C&D waste lying across the city. However, a fresh survey is now required to evaluate how much construction waste is currently dumped illegally, the civic body has said.
