GUWAHATI: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has launched a special drive for processing building permissions, occupancy certificates and regularisation applications for buildings of all categories. The initiative, which commenced in Feb, is scheduled to continue through March.
GMC mayor Mrigen Sarania said this initiative seeks to address the difficulties faced by builders and allottees in securing timely authorisations and certificates, while also tackling outstanding building-related matters.
According to him, the city currently has 197 pending building construction permits, which will be processed efficiently through this initiative. The programme, operating from GMC’s Uzan Bazar office, also aims to eliminate intermediary involvement completely.
“This special drive, running from Feb 1 to Mar 31, aims to expedite the process and minimize delays with the assistance of GMC officials. The process has been streamlined to make make approvals easier and more accessible for citizens, including property owners and builders,” the mayor said.
The mayor further added, “Whenever we receive any building related matter, there are always some sort of lapses which are found during the verification process which is already a time taking process, the additional delays are further caused due to a lack of response from both sides. Through this initiative, we urge citizens to actively participate and resolve their pending applications.”
Sarania outlined the required documentation for occupancy certificate applications, including land documents, building completion certificates, certification from the chief electrical inspector-cum-adviser, Assam, an NOC for lift usage from the chief inspector of lifts and escalators, Assam, and an NOC from the director of fire and emergency services, Assam.
