Highly Recommended: Match Your Pj’s to Your Sheets Like an AD Editor

Clever logo

Have you ever felt the tiny jab of delight that is matching your pj’s to your bedsheets? Nah? Only us? A home is full of unexpected odd couples: sculptural soap that mimics the vibe of your shower curtain, house shoes that match your favorite oversized sweatshirt, or a dining room rug and tablecloth combination that feels like a hug. These are the moments that make your home, well, yours—you may be the only one to enjoy them, but once in a while a guest may spot one and go “Of course you would have that.”

But back to the pajamas and bedsheets. Pj’s and loungewear—we’re talking pajama pants with übercomfortable elastic waistbands, nightshirts, chic button-ups, that cute poplin cotton set your mom gifted you last Christmas—are all little luxuries in themselves. Consider them an opportunity to feel put together and cozy in the last hours of your day. Patterned sheets follow the same rules: You want to be comfortable when you sleep, obviously, but the swath of comfy fabric upon your bed also plays an aesthetic role in your bedroom. For me, nothing feels more on-brand than jumping into my bright blue Hay Outline duvet while wearing my “Catch of the Day” lobster nightshirt—I think of it as diving into the ocean of sleep.

Ahead, AD editors spill on their favorite sleepy time pattern plays—and they promise not to be mad if you steal their style.

Cozy Earth Bamboo Pajama Set & Buffy Breeze Sheet Set

Long Sleeve Bamboo Pajama Set

“I’ve tried to live out a bit of an Eloise fantasy as of late. What can I say, I like the finer things in life—and that includes a luxurious bed setup, from my sheets to my pajamas. Cozy Earth’s long-sleeve bamboo pajama set feels like a breath of fresh air, even in the winter. It’s loose, light, and breathable yet keeps me warm and cozy during these colder months. I love the refined look of the navy color accented by white piping that leaves me feeling put-together (even when I’m about to go to sleep) and like I’m about to swan about the lobby of the Plaza. While I think an equally luxurious-looking set of classic cotton white sheets would compliment this set just fine, the color and accenting leave me wanting something as subtly elevated. Personally, I’m drawn to this light blue striped Breeze sheet set from Buffy that my colleague Zoë Sessums tested and reported got softer with each wash. With the simple stripe and light blue color, they exude the exact kind of understated elegance I’m envisioning for my Eloise-inspired nights.” – Megan Wahn, associate commerce editor, food & home

Piglet In Bed Gingham Linen Night Shirt & Quince European Linen Stripe Sheet Set

Botanical Green Gingham Linen Night Shirt

European Linen Stripe Sheet Set

“The mental place I go when I need to bliss out is always some warm seaside town with a rocky coast and blue water sparkling from the sun. It’s also a perfect bedroom aesthetic. So what better way to channel that overall vibe than striped linen sheets (I could be in Greece or France with these), and a sleek linen nightshirt to match. The combo says: I am relaxed, I am serene, and I can hear the ocean lapping against the shore.” – Zoë Sessums, digital design editor

Eberjey Organic Cotton Printed Short Pj Set & Magniberg Patchwork Duvet Cover

Organic Sandwashed Cotton Printed Short PJ Set

Magniberg Blue Wall Street Patchwork Duvet Cover

“It’s difficult to pinpoint exactly when my fixation with stripes started (perhaps I was Parisian in another life?) but I’ve always been drawn to a simple yet sophisticated stripe. You’ll absolutely catch me wearing both pieces of this airy cotton set from Eberjey out of the house soon and I really love the way they look with this patchwork Magniberg duvet cover that’s one of my absolute favorites to dress up my bed in something a little formal but still fun.” – Audrey Lee

Eberjey Inez Short Pj Set & Dusen Dusen Mat Bedding

Inez Washable Silk Short PJ Set

“I love the subtle color scheme-matching going on with this pj-and-sheet combo. Eberjey makes some of my absolute favorite pj’s and their breezy washable silk is the perfect nightly uniform in the spring and summer, and Dusen Dusen bedding ranks high among my favorites when I want my spread to feel extra joyful.” – Audrey Lee, commerce editor

Not Just Pajama French Style Short Set & Bed Threads Sage & Olive Stripe Linen Sheet

Not Just Pajama French Style Short Set

Sage & Olive Stripe 100% French Flax Linen Fitted Sheet

“It doesn’t get much more luxurious than this silk sleep set from Not Just Pajama (who make some of the most beautiful pj’s IMO). I’m a huge proponent of sleepwear for anywhere as long as it’s stylish enough, and these don’t raise a single eyebrow when you wear them out. I love the way they look with this delicate key-lime-esque striped linen sheet from Bed Threads, whose bedding and table linens are seriously a game changer.” – Audrey Lee

Desmond & Dempsey Pocket Printed Linen Pajama Set & Sheet Society Eve Linen Margot Sheets

Desmond & Dempsey Pocket Printed Linen Pajama Set

“There’s no two ways about it: Gingham makes me happy. I’ve had these sheets for a few years now and one of my favorite features is the superthick elastic band I once described as the granny panties of sheets, which grips my bed with certainty.

As for the pj’s, they represent all of my Western dreams and fantasies. The color palette is an absolute win and I’m very sad this set is only available in a select few sizes because they’d make a great set. The linen really has gotten softer with every wash and I like to bring them as my travel pj’s because friends always think I’m superchic.” – Rachel Fletcher, senior commerce editor

Deiji Studios 03 Set Field Check & Russet Check Sheets

“I’m a big fan of Deiji Studios pajama sets, so I love the idea of having matching bedding too! Maybe I’m experiencing the revival of my teenage preppy phase—I am not under the influence of the old money aesthetic—but I’ve been eager to bring more check prints into my life in recent years. These sheets check that box without being too loud, nothing could bring me more peace of mind in the thick of hibernation season.” – Sydney Gore, senior digital design editor
