HYDERABAD: To prepare a comprehensive and mega master plan for Hyderabad Metropolitan Region 2050, Telangana govt has started working on detailed sub-plans on various aspects. It is focusing on three major components — economic development, mobility and blue & green infrastructure — of the master plan for the metropolitan region. Three consultants have been engaged to come up with plans, which are expected to be ready by Dec 2024.
Chief minister A Revanth Reddy had a few months ago announced that a comprehensive master plan-2050 would be prepared for the metropolitan region development for the next 25 years. As of now, HMDA region does not have a proper comprehensive master plan. Though the previous BRS govt had started integration of various master plans five years ago, however, it was put in cold storage.
Sources in the municipal administration department said mobility, economic development and blue & green plans were must, which would be incorporated along with other aspects in the proposed comprehensive master plan. Hyderabad metropolitan area has been divided into three clusters: area within the Outer Ring Road (ORR); the region extending from ORR to Regional Ring Road (RRR); and the area beyond RRR, which are mainly rural areas where future development can take place, up to HMDA jurisdiction.
An important aspect of the master plan is comprehensive mobility plan (CMP), which would help to identify and develop mass transport system for the metropolitan region in a phased manner like Metro rail, bus rapid system, rail and road networks.
Sources said the previous govt had prepared comprehensive transport system for HMDA limits in 2018 based on the population figures of 2011, incoporating 12 new Metro corridors as per the Union govt’s guidelines. Now, in view of massive development till ORR and upcoming RRR, a new mobility plan would be needed, in tune with the National Urban Transport Policy . “CMP will look into the requirement of transportation infrastructure up to 2050, under long term (2050), medium term (2031 to 2040) and short term (2024 to 2030),” a source said. The economic development plan (EDP) would be a comprehensive document to identify areas which can be developed for future economy and potential areas. Govt could allot land for investment, industries and also develop infrastructure in a phased manner. The consultant has been asked to assess potential and opportunities for economic growth potential and industrial development, population and investment opportunities in various locations in the metropolitan area.State has been giving top priority for blue & green infrastructure (BGI) plans as part of the master plan. “Blue refers to water bodies and tanks, while green indicates trees, parks, open spaces and gardens. As part of the master plan preparation, present blue and green locations will be identified and earmarked in the plans. Mapping of all blue and green elements on GIS platform will be done,” a senior govt official said.
